Thank you for an amazing week, Sicily!
Saturday 5th November
Today in the morning we left cold Kalajoki at 8 by a mini-bus heading to Oulu airport. The first flight from Oulu to Helsinki was fine as well as the second one from Helsinki to Rome. In Helsinki we had to wait for four hours and in Rome for three hours. We spent it by eating good food and entertaining other people with fedora flip, yoga and piano concerts. The last flight from Rome to Catania was a bit late but everything went fine. We arrived in Catania at midnight and met our host families. Obviously we were tired after a long day of travelling and headed straight to bed.

Sunday 6th November
Today we spent time with our host families. One of us visited the city of Messina and saw some beautiful places. Another had a big family lunch and got to taste great Italian food and in the evening went walking around Mascalucia. The rest of us were driving around the city with the host brothers and later enjoying a meal with the other students.

Monday 7th November
Today we had to wake up very early, about between 6.30 and 7.00. At 8.00 we were at school and then the seminar started. We had a quick lunch after that and then the seminar continued, and that’s when we presented our presentation. After the seminar we were spending some time with the other exchange students and hosts, and also with some local Italians. In the evening we all went to a restaurant Milù. We had a fun evening with tasting many different pizzas.

Tuesday 8th November
In the morning we took a long bus ride to the Mount Etna. We had a four-hour hike up and down the mountain. We started from 1700 meters and finished at over 2000 meters. Hiking was quite tough and tiring but the view was definitely worth it. After hiking we had a delicious lunch. Then we went back to school and got home. We all needed some rest before heading to the town for some snacks and bowling.

Wednesday 9th November
Today we went to the company St Microelectronics for a visit. We had first a presentation about the company, and after that we were split into two groups. The other group was taken to see the factory, and the other went to see the products of the company in auditorium. After the visit to the factory we went to the beach Playa to eat some more delicious food near the Mediterranean ocean. Some of us went swimming to the sea, and it was quite refreshing! After that we took our aim to the center of Catania, but first we had to stop by our families.

On thursday we went to school and reprogrammed a robot to go circuit. We selected four groups and started competition, Germans won. After that we went to gym to play some sports and we had couple volleyball matches. In the evening we had a farewell party at school since it was our last night in Italy. There were good food, music and lots of tears.

Friday 11th November
We were the first group to leave Sicily. We had to wake up at 3.30 because we had to be at the school at 4.20 to catch our bus to the airport. Our first flight to Rome left at 6.15. We had couple of hours to spend at the Rome airport and we almost missed our flight back to Finland. The rest of the journey was all ok and we back in Kalajoki around eight o’clock in the evening. Our trip to Italy was great! We met lovely people and got wonderful experience!
